avian influenza (h9n2) among poultry workers in iran

چکیده
background and objectives: a number of different subtypes of avian influenza (ai) viruses have emerged in humans includingh5n1, h7n2, h7n7 and h9n2. these influenza viruses are excreted in the infected birds and in their respiratory secretions.the aim of this study was to investigate seropositivity against h9n2 and h7n7 viruses among poultry and slaughterhouse workers with occupational risk of exposure to poultry in tehran province. materials and methods: a cross-sectional seroprevalence study was performed using two types of hi assay among 127 poultry and slaughter-house workers and 25 controls with the regular consumer related exposure to poultry against h9n2 and h7n7 avian influenza viruses. data were analyzed using sas 9.1. results: there was no evidence of previous h7n7 infection among subjects. both poultry workers had elevated antibodies against h9n2 influenza viruses compared to controls. slaughter-house workers who self-reported eviscerating poultry with their bare hands had markedly increased evidence of previous h9n2 infection (15.7%) compared to controls (0%)(or=18.241, 95% ci ([6.802-48.914]). conclusions: our results suggest poultry-to-human transmission of avian influenza a h9n2 can occur in poultry workers.eviscerating section workers, in contrast to others had the highest risk of h9n2 infection. it is emphasized that eviscerating sections of poultry work is the most contaminated part of poultry industry that could increase the likelihood of poultry-tohuman transmission.

Avian Influenza H9N2 Seroprevalence among Poultry Workers in Pune, India, 2010
Avian influenza (AI) H9N2 has been reported from poultry in India. A seroepidemiological study was undertaken among poultry workers to understand the prevalence of antibodies against AI H9N2 in Pune, Maharashtra, India. A total of 338 poultry workers were sampled. Serum samples were tested for presence of antibodies against AI H9N2 virus by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) and microneutralizati...

Ducks and in-contact backyard chickens on 20 smallholder backyard farms in 4 districts of Shiraz, Southwest of Iran, were monitored for antibodies against H9N2 avian influenza virus using hemagglutinationinhibition (HI) test. A total of 200 unvaccinated ducks and backyard chickens were sampled. The mean H I titers and seroprevalence in ducks and backyard chickens were 8.3, 5.7 and 78.4, 62.9%, ...

To the Editor: In Nigeria and other African countries, outbreaks caused by the Asian strain of highly patho-genic avian infl uenza virus (HPAI) subtype H5N1 have occurred in poultry. These countries do not have the capacity to effectively manage, eliminate , and control animal diseases, and humans generally live in close contact with poultry (1,2). Before these outbreaks (2006) in other countri...

BACKGROUND Currently numerous countries in Asia, Africa and Europe are encountering highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) infections in poultry and humans. In the Americas, home of the world's largest poultry exporters, contingency plans are being developed and evaluated in preparation for the arrival of these viral strains. OBJECTIVES With this cross-sectional study, to our knowledge the fi...

BACKGROUND: The H9N2 subtype of avian influenzaviruses (AIVs) has been isolated in multiple avian species inmany European, Asian, African and American countries. Sincethe first outbreak of H9N2 virus in Iran in 1998, this virus haswidely circulated throughout the country, resulting in majoreconomic losses in chicken flocks. Several amino acids in thevirus ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex includi...

I of poultry with influenza A (subtype H5N1) virus is responsible for outbreaks in birds and a human case-fatality rate of 58% (1). The most likely means of transmission is from infected birds to humans and from the environment to humans, but evidence for human-to-human transmission is limited (2). This virus can be transmitted if a person has direct contact with infected poultry or surfaces an...
